In a nutshell, the ‘heat loss calculation’ is a method of working out how much heat a property typically loses.
This calculation therefore allows you to work out the size of heating system required to ensure that the property in question is efficiently heated.
Don’t worry, we don’t expect our clients to carry out heat loss calculations on their properties. The team here at Knight Gas Services can do this for you.
If you would like to find out more about heat loss calculations, read on, otherwise contact Knight Gas Services to discuss your property’s heating needs.
If you are looking to work out your property’s heat loss then you need to look at how much heat escapes from the walls, windows, doors, and any roofs of the property.
A particular focus is put on any draughty areas, the property’s current ventilation, what building materials have been used, the current room sizes, and what insulation is already in place.
Each area is assessed in turn to work out the heat loss per room/area in Watts, and then run through the calculation to provide a figure in kilowatts (kW)
The heat loss calculation is…
Q = U x A x ΔT (Fabric Heat Loss) and Q = 0.33 x V x N x ΔT (Ventilation Heat Loss)
Unless you have a degree in complex mathematics, there are lots of online calculators that will take care of this for you.
Put simply, the heat loss calculation allows you to put the right boiler size in for the property. Allowing for the heating system to run efficiently which ultimately gives you lower energy bills, an comfortable heat, and for your property to meet any building regulation.

Like most things in life, your choice of radiator in any domestic or commercial setting is a personal choice. However, there are a few things to keep in mind – let’s take a look at what they are in this blog post.
There are many boilers and boiler manufacturers to choose from here in the UK. It can therefore be tricky to know what boiler is best for your home or commercial premise. As an independent, Knight Gas Services can guide you through your choices.
From time to time you may find that your radiators need to be bleed and there can be many reason for this. Check out our step by step guide here on how to bleed your radiators (UK edition).
